FULLY INSURED!
PINE vs CEDAR.....
Selecting the right type of wood for your fence can be tough, so let us help you! Choosing a higher quality of wood along with a good stain product will help ensure you get the most life out of the fence. Please note that ALL wood types are subject to decay, warp, bow, or crack over time. Properly cared for, fences can last 10 - 30 years depending on the type of wood used. It is highly recommended that fences be re-stained/sealed every 2-3 years.

PINE
* Yellow wood that comes pressure
treated (removes moisture and
chemically treated to protect it from
insect and moisture decay)

* Pressure Treated Pine typically lasts
20 years on average, relatively
durable

* NOT guaranteed against shrinkage,
warping, bowing, and splitting
(checking)

* Kiln dried pine can be easily stained to
a variety of colors

* Regular maintenance (replace/repair
boards as needed)

CEDAR
* Known for it's rich color, fragrance,
stability, and durability

* Nicer appearance than Pine and
longer lifespan

* Western Red Cedar most common
(beautiful color and fine grain), can
last 25-30 years

* Higher quality wood = more of an
investment (worth it over time)

* “Green” alternative = non-toxic,
naturally resistant to decay from
moisture or insects due to the natural
oils in the wood

CEDAR COMES IN THREE GRADES - All grades weather and wear the same. Their general appearance is different. #2 and #1 are most commonly used for fences.
#2 Grade - This is the least expensive of the three cedar choices. Knots are all sizes and plentiful with some blemishes.
# 1 Grade - Finer in appearance and fewer blemishes. Knot quantities and size are unpredictable, though generally knots are fewer and smaller than #2 cedar.

Clear Grade – Most expensive, premium pickets that are very consistent and mostly knot free. Minor blemishes are rated and deemed acceptable.
